Social Media It's on Their Terms

In the wake of the new Facebook policy/guidelines, I've seen a lot of people posting a copyright/privacy disclaimer. Unfortunately this does nothing for you. By continuing to use Facebook, you are agreeing to their terms. The best protection you have is to be careful what you upload/post (as always).

Make Your Business Page Easier to Find on Facebook

Does your Facebook business page have an easy to remember website address? Or one with a whole slew of numbers at the end?

When you create a business page on Facebook, they initially give you a complex address, something like facebook.com/ArtStudiosOnline/333130740064000. Unfortunately, this makes your FB page location a bit difficult to remember.

But, once you have a certain number of fans (currently 25 - but that number has been known to change) you can request a custom page name like facebook.com/ArtStudiosOnline.

To change the address for a page you manage, go to this link: https://www.facebook.com/username. Choose the page you want to change the address for and type in the address you would like. Click "Check Availability". If the address you want is available, click "Confirm" to save it.

Note: you can only change your address once so make sure you are sure of the address you want and make sure you check for spelling errors before confirming.

How to Create a Facebook Business Page

Facebook for BusinessIt seems everyone is on Facebook these days. Many artists are finding it is a good way to interact with other artists, art fans and collectors.

Some people connect with everyone on Facebook as a "friend". Social media is really about opening up your personal life and telling your story. This can create some conflict when you really want to keep your personal and professional lives a bit more separated.

This is where Facebook business pages come in. You can still be social but you have a bit more control over your image. That way you won't have to worry about your Great Aunt Shirley posting your baby pictures for all your art contacts to see.
